A pilot study on emotional intelligence & its impact on pre-competitive anxiety: How does it operate in the non-WEIRD Indian sport context?

This pilot study examined the relationship between Emotional Intelligence (EI) and precompetitive anxiety in a multiple sport sample non-WEIRD (Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich Democratic) Indian context. We hypothesized divergent operation of variables context, which is contrast to Eurocentric populations represented literature. Participants were 150 full time athletes across five sports (tennis, badminton, cricket, football, basketball). Competitive state inventory-2 (CSAI-2) intelligence scale (EIS) administered pre competition using quantitative, cross-sectional research design. Spearman’s correlation analysis indicates significant negative EI competitive anxiety. Mann-Whitney U test revealed no statistical differences genders both types. Self-confidence had positive with dimensions EI. holds significance providing basic understanding operational dynamics an context where prior literature exists. Results diverge from established patterns WEIRD, countries. are inferred their contribution cross-cultural insight adding value predominantly psychology discussed lends cultural psychology.
